Rodents and Rodent-like Creatures

Three Experiences
Submitted by Cheryl Pugh Kirby, 8-16-09

Whether theorized to be spirits of lost pets or glimpses into critters in parallel universes, my experiences over the last 5 years have convinced me the shadow animals exist.

The first shadow animal I saw was also noticed by an unlikely witness, my cat, Sei. While standing in the kitchen of a home I had in Florida, I noticed dark movement on the floor out of the corner of my right eye. As I turned to look, I saw a dark mist about the size of a guinea pig run through my kitchen and into my storage room, literally disappearing into the side of a cardboard box. Sei was giving chase right behind the "mist" and nearly went face-first into the side of the box. I was speechless! Sei turned around and looked at me as if to say, "Did you see that??" Being a great lizard and bug hunter by nature, Sei is adamant at not having any creature other than her in my house. She and I both investigated the room and found nothing that would explain where this shadow critter went.

My second episode was a few months after the first. My husband and I were at a popular restaurant in St. Petersburg and had just been seated and were waiting on our drinks. We were at a table next to the wall and there was about a 5 foot open area between us and the next row of tables. As we were talking, I saw a shadow zip very fast from a table across aisle to right under our table! Knowing my husband is a die-hard skeptic, I said nothing to see if he would respond and he did: "What was that? A rat?" His next reaction was to look under the table to see where this shadow had gone or what it was. He came up scratching his head and said he saw nothing under the table. This shadow animal was in a dark, misty form like the first, but was much longer like a large rat.

The most recent experience was during a paranormal investigation with the SPIRITS of St. Petersburg. We were on the 2nd floor of an older home with a rich history. Most of my fellow investigators were in a bedroom, and as I walked into the hallway for a moment, I saw a small shadow animal, again about the size of a guinea pig, appear. The animal zig-zagged across the hall a couple times before shooting under the bed of another bedroom. I brought this to the attention of the group founder who was leading the investigation. We later learned that the homeowner's son had experienced a sensation of a cat or small animal walking across him as he laid in bed. Could this shadow animal have been the spectral creature? I believe it was.

Shadow Rabbit

Hello, my name is Ashton, and first off, I would like to say, props on the site! Ever since my "encounter", I have been looking for a comprehensive guide on shadow animals, and your site has been the most helpful to date, so thank you!

Now, about my "encounter". Ever since I can remember, my father has deemed our house "haunted", and indeed, my family members and I have seen some bizzare and unexplainable things in it [shadow people, cabinets opening and closing on their own, objects being moved...].

However, it is one string of encounters with rabbit-like shadow creatures that has me especially intrigued.  The sightings of these creatures [as well as many others] have occurred along the baseboards in an especially dark corners of my room, where the overhead lighting doesn't seem to quite reach.  On and off, for about three months, as I laid in bed, I would see these dark rabbit-like shapes drifting to and from the corner. They did not hop, as "normal" rabbits do, but seemed to sail, as if in the middle of a long, slow leap. the figures were not well-defined, but the general outline of a rabbit was apparent. To the best of my recollection, I always saw more than one of these creatures at a time [they usually appeared in groups of two or three]. I was not frightened by these creatures, and they did not leave me with any sense of dread, but I must admit, I was quite taken by surprise.

I am a very rational person, by nature. I am not one to jump to conclusions, but I swear I have seen strange things in that room. To date, no other human in my household has seen the rabbits, but I often find my dog peering into the corner with a puzzled expression on his face. Sometimes, he will come into my room in the dead of night  and just stare in that direction, then turn on his heels and promptly leave.

You have my permission to post this on your site, if you so wish.

Flying Shadow Animal

My name is Kelly S. I'm a 53 year-old male. I have a shadow animal story.   One night two years ago I saw the strangest thing I've ever seen in my life. It freaked me out so much that I didn't even tell Sally about it until several months later. I just didn't know what to make of it, and it was a bit bothersome. It happened about halfway between Sally's and my sister's house. Let me set the stage: It was late November. It was a little after midnight. It was a little chilly, and the sky was clear. I very seldom drink alcohol, and I had none that night. I wasn't high on drugs or psychedelic mushrooms or happy pills or anything like that. I have excellent vision, and I've never worn glasses. I'd just left Sally's and I was walking up to my car. I was passing under a bright street light. Suddenly I saw sort of a blob run out into the road in front of me. It was almost like it just appeared out of nowhere. I thought maybe it was a squirrel that had been hit by a car, except that there were no cars anywhere. It seemed to be moving and twitching so fast that I couldn't tell what it was at first, but then after I watched it for a few seconds I realized that it looked pretty much like a blob. It seemed to go from a solid object to a flat shadow, and back. At that point I thought that I was seeing a shadow of a huge moth or a bat, but it would have been very unusual to see either that late in the year. I looked up at the light and saw nothing. I expected the shadow to be gone, but I looked back and saw the thing running around. I tried to look more closely, but it was moving around very quickly, and even though the street was well-lit, I couldn't make out what it was. It ran back and forth in all directions, and it would occasionally stop for a few seconds, but it would still be moving rapidly in place somehow. I was starting to freak out a little bit because I'd never seen anything remotely like this before. I just stood there watching it. It began to move in sort of a pattern. It almost seemed as if it were aware of me, and that it wanted me to chase it. I realize that sounds crazy, but that's the impression I got. It would move across the street and then back toward me, and it would stop and sort of quiver in place. That's the best way I can describe it.

I looked back up at the streetlight several times and saw nothing. I kept thinking I'd be able to make out an outline and figure out what it was, but I was starting to think I was seeing something that wasn't normal. It kept darting around and stopping, until it finally came right up next to me and stopped. It was just to my right and maybe two feet from my foot. I was pretty freaked out by this time, but I had to get a closer look. I bent down to look at it, and as I got close, it vanished right before my eyes. I instinctively reached out my hand to where it had been, but there was nothing. It had simply disappeared into thin air. The whole thing lasted between two and three minutes, and I was still standing in the road like a frozen fool; waiting to see if anything else would happen. I figured somebody might call the cops, so I got in my car. It was nearly fifteen minutes before I was able to gather my wits and finally drive off. I was dumbfounded, and I still don't know what to make of it. But I know what I saw.

I spent the next few days trying to make sense of what I'd seen. Sally remarked that I was being very quiet, but I didn't say anything. I don't know if I'd have known how to relate what happened; it was so weird. Then I just filed it away in my "?" file. I didn't so much try to put it out of my mind as just try not to dwell on it. Then maybe two months later, I was listening to Coast to Coast AM one evening as I was driving home, and they had a guy that was talking about "shadow animals." Many people have heard of shadow people, and they're widely regarded as bad spirits. But I'd never heard of shadow animals. This guy was telling a story about seeing something that was very similar to what I saw. He said that he saw a shadow against a wall one night. It was moving back and forth and sort of vibrating in place, which is exactly like what I saw, except that it was bigger. He thought it was a dog at first, but then he said he was unable to make out a distinct shape, and that the thing seemed to be going from semi-solid to a flat shadow. That's what I saw, and just like me, he watched it for a couple of minutes and then it vanished before his eyes. I pounded on the steering wheel. I was so glad to hear a description, as crazy as it may sound, of what I'd seen. I really wish I'd gotten the guy's name so I could try to e-mail him, but I didn't think about that. I was just glad somebody else had seen what I saw. Not long after that I finally told Sally about it. It felt good to talk about it. It goes on after that, but that's the main part. You're welcome to use if. I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know. Thanks. Sincerely, Kelly

White Shadow Animal Sitings 1

Okay, well I guess I'm pretty young to be dealing with this paranormal stuff since I'm in my early teens, but I've been experiencing this kind of stuff since I was about five years old. I know I have already seen a peeking shadow on my grade eight trip and my friend saw it too so I know I'm not crazy. What I'm really curious about are these creatures that I've seen through the years. I'm not even sure what they are but shadow animals are the closest things that I can guess. Although, the creatures that I've been seeing are white instead of black. They are very fast and I always see them when I am turning around. Usually they are running across a front lawn or something alike. As soon as they make it across, they disappear. The first one I saw looked somewhat like a hedgehog and it was the purest white I had ever seen. I wasn't the only one around but I was the only one who saw it, and it was mid-day. The most recent one I saw was a few weeks ago in the night. It was also white but not so pure in the dark. It seemed like a cat and for a second I thought it was just that until it jumped so high into the bushes and disappeared. As I was turning away I saw its head peek out and it jumped across the lawn and disappeared. I hadn't seen one since. So yeah since we're only talking about shadow animals I'm going to leave it at that and if you have any information as to what I am experiencing please email me back. Oh and yes you have permission to put this on your website. Just identify me as lovemenot1317 I guess. (:

I JUST NOW saw a "Shadow Animal" across from my house at the Old Abandoned Farm off Overlook / Degarmo Road. It was 7:45 pm, while I went to get my video camera, it left the area ! So, I took off after it, hoping it wouldn't attack me. Looked ALL OVER the place. Couldn't find it. I even made calls like an [angry] raccoon. Nothing.

DESCRIPTION : About 40" from head to tail. All Black. Hunched over. Thick fur. Thought it was a Giant Raccoon at first. Tail was fat / tapered about 4" diameter at the butt and about 20" long.

I hope it doesn't eat my Cat :o( Add this event to your collection. Now I will camp out 'til I get this thing on Video.

Shadow Animal post:

I live in a very rural area so seeing animals run across the road in the early morning is not unusual. But this morning this is what I saw:

This morning when I was driving to work at 5:15 am, a shadow looked like smallish maybe baby raccoon size ran across the road and then up a power pole and then a bird flew across the road. I thought maybe a bird was sitting on the side of the pole definitely not on top. Bird shadow was about the same size. Just really weird.

Any ideas?
